St Thomas Primary
Project Work

St Thomas' Primary School Heritage Activities

Since September 2016 pupils from St Thomas' Primary have been taking in a number of digital media and heritage based activities this has included a spoken word workshop with Akala. They have also created a digital media art installation with local artist Michael Speechley, from the Dissenters' Gallery,  and been on a number of trips to the Tate Britain and Kensal Green Cemetery.

Waking the Dead - St Thomas' Film

Year 6 pupils from St Thomas' CE Primary School share their thoughts on life, death and Kensal Green Cemetery.

Akala Workshop

Year 6 pupils work through a series of workshops, activities and games followed by a presentation on the musical history of Kensal Green Cemetery and as a way of introducing young people to sound system culture.

Art Installation at the Dissenters' Chapel

By taking inspiration from sound systems, Year 6 created a series of small working cardboard speakers, which the film was then projected on to and the sound from the film played out of each speaker.  Nine papier-mâché planets were created to orbit the sound system, taking inspiration from the The Sonar System, a children’s picture book by singer and MC Ras Mykha, which was part of the #WeNeedDiverseBooks campaign.
